To not be a Bridesmaid

Tis’ the Season for Weddings and being asked to be a bridesmaid is so exciting.  When you accept, you have a verbal contract to be the Bride’s side chick during her wedding adventure. You may have to handle a lot of unexpected drama and requests that float your way.  Be ready for the expenses that involve your participation to make her shine, on what she calls the best day of her life. She has been planning this day since she was ten, and after all the weddings she have attended, she wants to top them all.  The actual cost will certainly depend on the wedding details, but according to 2010 nationwide survey of more than 20,000 brides, the average bridesmaid can expect to pay a whopping $1,700.

Paying for an exotic bachelorette party to Mexico?  Sure, sounds like a blast. I’ll participate in that.

Buying a bridesmaid dress that you will never ever wear again? OK, since you love the dress I’ll wear it!

And, if said bridesmaid proposal came with a deal-breaking condition – you must lose weight before the wedding takes place.  SAY WHAT!

But, it turns out some brides actually do ask this of their bridal party, and they don’t seem to have any shame about it, either. Like Ashley, a 30-year-old PR executive living in Brooklyn, who the New York Post reports has done exactly that ahead of her wedding. And the ridiculous thing is, Ashley’s not the only one. It’s a trend that seems to be becoming more and more popular, and you can read about more brides who want minimal numbers on their bridesmaids’ scales in this NY Post article.

I would have to say Hell NO to the bridesmaid proposal. Not because I don’t have a few pounds to lose, but because you have no right to tell me what to do with my body. You can ask me to wear the ugly dress, but you cannot tell me or request that I wear a certain kind of underwear under the dress. Much less demand that I lose weight.  Nah. . Gurl you went over into Bridezilla territory and I have no time for you!

BRIDEZILLA:  One ridiculous spoiled bitch that thinks she is the center of the universe, just because her “show” (the wedding) is coming up soon. Everyone else in the world has to drop everything and come running in this prime-donna’s mind. What would you do when the bride turns from a semi-demanding human being into a complete Bridezilla? Would, you try to deal with the crazy, downright insane requests.  Or would you just say NO?

I’ve actually already dealt with such nonsense. What I said? I said, thank you but No thank you. She took it badly and she don’t talk to me anymore. Well, that’s her problem not mine. Happy Sunday, my beautiful sis.
